The DIBELS Letter Naming Fluency (LNF) assessment measures students reading readiness. The students are asked to name lowercase and uppercase letters randomly for 60 seconds. They will be asked to name as many as they can in that time period. Students are assessed for Letter Naming Fluency from Kindergarten through the end of first grade.

Letter Naming is a fundamental part of learning how to read. Letter naming is an important skill for your pre-k and kindergarten students to work on so they can later learn letter sounds and eventually read and recognize words. Students who cannot recognize letters and sounds will have difficulty reading.

Letter Recognition Games

There are many different games and activities readily available to help students recognize and learn their letters.

Upper and Lowercase Letter Puzzles would be a fun way for students to learn their letters! You connect uppercase and lowercase letters! It self correcting and a great addition to any classroom or home!

Alphabet Alligators are such a creative way to learn letters! Student connect the uppercase letter (front of the alligator) to the lowercase letter (rear of the alligator) to make a full alligator! Students would love this activity!

Alphabet Bingo is also another fun, interactive way for students to learn their letters! Each set comes with 8 game boards and enough tokens to play! This is a sure fire way for students to learn to identify their letters!
